LaFlamme also trained bears and attended sportsmen's shows with them. A popular side show was big Louis wrestling with Maheegan the wolf. After all, the bear was just following in the footsteps of its master who had once been a champion wrestler in Montreal. In the midst of all these exploits, Joe LaFlamme raised his son Morris and did some bootlegging to make ends meet and spice up his life. In the 1940's he also made a star appearance as a forest fire fighter in Warner Brothers' documentary film: The Forest Commandos.

During his career as a wild animal tamer, colourful Joe "Wolf Man" LaFlamme experienced one adventure after another. But health issues forced him to seek regular medical attention; a move back to Montreal was inevitable. But this did not stop Joe from interacting with the animals of the boreal forest: he established his own private zoo and became an avid wildlife conservationist.
